Iran #1 - Traditional Percussions
For our first nod to Iranian music, we turned to the country’s master of percussion, Naghib Shanbehzadeh. His first solo album offers a comprehensive, original exploration of Iranian percussion, and of the soul of trance. The tracks mix contemporary beats from the Persian Gulf with the more established rhythmic styles from Southern Iran, such as Bandari, Sheki or Choupi. The use of traditional Persian instruments as Zarb and Darbouka, Tombak, Dohola, Dholak, Pipe, Keser, Deyre, Bendir, Kopuz… contribute greatly to Shanbehzadeh’s emotional, engaged interpretation of his powerful, inspiring Persian instrumental themes. With the addition of dynamic handclaps, these tracks are at once evocative and profound, lively, suspended and evolving or downright busy and bouncy. They’ll even, sometimes, journey into a percussive frenzy. Ideally suited for global or cultural topics, museography, dance, Middle Eastern settings, travel documentaries, and emotive gatherings.
