Yen Kyng – L'Agonie de la nuit
Yen Kyng is Ky Phung François Nguyen’s newest project. The prolific songwriter and former member of French indie pop band Elista revisits his first love, French pop. This album, a response to SuperPitch’s carte blanche invitation, is proof of the way Nguyen’s talent lies in the smallest of details. Male vocals, muffled or bouncy drums, hovering pads, warm acoustic guitar, shimmering synths, catchy hooks… Melancholic or upbeat, emotional or bright, these songs are all deeply ingrained with a city feel, and convey a sense of belonging. By bringing the singularity out of the ordinary, everyday people, the songwriter takes us, and his protagonists, on a journey where we can all connect, one way or the other. The music is groovy, textures are muffled, and the lyrics tell mundane stories where the human heart and experience stand out, with an undeniably understated quality, from heartbeats to heartbreaks.
